The Grand Raid is one hard event not because of the distance but because of the ascent and nature it crosses full valleys. One fast descent rolls into another huge climb. For an Englishman more used to humps of Guernsey it was going to be hard. I did ride every ascent with what I thought was a modest pace, but it was not fast enough. The trick is being able to ride big ascents, fast. Thats the focus for the comnig year.
The thing that makes people come back year after year is the reputation for a great ride and and elevation challenge. I have also just learnt that after leaving verbier the snow fell again. Atleast I did not have to try to be faster with snow falling all around.
